Visual Debugger for Single-Point-Contact Haptic Rendering
نویسندگان
چکیده
Haptic applications are difficult to debug due to their high update rate and many factors influencing their execution. In this paper, we describe a practical visual debugger for single-point-of-contact haptic devices of impedance-type. The debugger can easily be incorporated into the running haptic application. The visualization shows the position trajectory with timing information and associated data like goal positions and computed feedback forces. Also, there are several options for in detail analysis of the feedback force applied at each time instance. We show with several use cases taken from practical experience that the system is well suited for locating common and intricate problems of haptic applications.

SRENG Contribution to the study of visual , auditory and haptic rendering of information of contact in virtual environments
Virtual Reality technologies are increasingly used in numerous domains. In industrial applicationsfor instance, virtual prototyping enables engineers to interactively test if one part can be assembledinto another. In such simulations, the contact between virtual objects is an essential notion as ittightly governs the movement of objects, constraining their trajectory with respect to...
متن کاملReal-time area-based haptic rendering and the augmented tactile display device for a palpation simulator
Although people usually contact a surface with some area rather than a point, most haptic devices allow a user to interact with a virtual object at one point at a time and likewise most haptic rendering algorithms deal with such situations only. In a palpation procedure, medical doctors push and rub the organ’s surface, and are provided the sensation of distributed pressure and contact force (r...
متن کامل6-DoF Haptic Rendering of Static Coulomb Friction Using Linear Programming
Simulating frictional contact between objects with complex geometry is important for 6-DoF haptic rendering applications. For example, friction determines whether components can be navigated past narrow clearances in virtual assembly. State-of-the-art haptic rendering of frictional contact either augments penalty contact with frictional penalty springs, which do not prevent sliding and cannot r...
متن کاملAccurate Contact Modeling for Multi-rate Single-point Haptic Rendering of Static and Deformable Environments
Common approaches for the haptic rendering of complex scenarios employ multi-rate simulation schemes. Here, the collision queries or the simulation of a complex deformable object are often performed asynchronously on a lower frequency, while some kind of intermediate contact representation is used to simulate interactions on the haptic rate. However, this can produce artifacts in the haptic ren...
متن کاملHaptic Rendering of Surfaces Defined by Implicit Functions
This paper presents a method for computing the contact forces which must be imposed on a human (via a haptic interface) to evoke the sensation of touching surfaces described by implicit equations of the form S(p) = 0. The algorithm computes in real-time the forces of interaction which would arise from a point interacting with a real surface of the given shape. It models the forces of interactio...
